Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as a news reporter and anchor at WPDE-TV. Then she became a morning reporter and anchor at WCBD TV. The stories she reported in Charleston about the police's leniency regarding DUI cases prompted a State Law Enforcement Division to examine. This led to state authorities issuing more strict rules in these instances. In the year 2000, The Associated Press honored Ms. O'Dell with the Best Report of the Years Award in all South Carolina Media. O'Dell later worked at the Miami-based station of NBC WTVJ-TV as an investigative journalist and anchor, prior to her joining Access Hollywood in the role as a weekend anchor.
